SP Guide Publications' first and rather flagship publication, the Military Yearbook was launched in 1965 and rechristened as SP's Military Yearbook in 1992, as a tribute to the Founder Editor Shri S.P. Baranwal who founded the company in 1964.
Today the Yearbook is regarded and termed as Bible of information on the armed forces in the context of entire Asia and the defence industry world over.
Air Marshal S.B. Deo took over as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS), Indian Air Force, on January 2, 2017.
The Air Marshal was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force on June 15, 1979. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla and the Defence Services Staff College at Wellington.
He is a Fighter Combat Leader and a Category ‘A’ Qualified Flying Instructor with over 3,800 hours of operational and training flying. Air Marshal Deo has been Air Officer Commanding of a major fighter base of the IAF. He commanded a MiG-21 Bison Squadron and a Signal Unit besides being the Chief Operations Officer of a forward airbase. As Station Commander of the Signal Unit he was actively involved in the induction of modern assets and sensors in the IAF.
He has held the appointments of Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command, DG Air (Ops), Air Officer Commanding COBRA Group, Air Defence Commander and Air I at Headquarters Central Air Command and has worked in Operations/Plans Directorates at Air Headquarters. He was also Directing Staff at Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment.
Prior to taking over as VCAS, he was the Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Air Command. In recognition of his meritorious service and exceptional professionalism, he has been awarded PVSM, AVSM, VM and VSM by the President of India.
The Air Marshal is married to Mrs Anjna Deo and they have a son who is a fighter pilot. He is an avid reader and is interested in creative writing and technology.
