SP Guide Publications' first and rather flagship publication, the Military Yearbook was launched in 1965 and rechristened as SP's Military Yearbook in 1992, as a tribute to the Founder Editor Shri S.P. Baranwal who founded the company in 1964.
Today the Yearbook is regarded and termed as Bible of information on the armed forces in the context of entire Asia and the defence industry world over.
Lieutenant General Surinder Singh took over the reins as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the prestigious Western Army on September 17, 2016.
He was commissioned into the 2nd Battalion, Brigade of the Guards in 1979 and later commanded the same unit. He is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Pune, and a graduate of Staff College at Camberley in UK, the Higher Command course at Mhow and the National Defence College course at Delhi. In a distinguished military career spanning near four decades, he has held important command, staff and instructional appointments in active counter-insurgency and operational environment including staff appointments in Military Operations Directorate and the Perspective Planning Directorate at the Army Headquarters.
He has vast experience in operational logistics and has held key logistic appointments on the western front. He has also served with the UN peacekeeping force in Liberia. He has commanded an armoured brigade, an infantry Division in a Strike Corps and an operationally committed corps in the Eastern Theatre prior to taking over the Western Army. He is recipient of AVSM and VSM awards for his distinguished service to the nation. He is the ‘Colonel’ of the Brigade of Guards.
