SP Guide Publications' first and rather flagship publication, the Military Yearbook was launched in 1965 and rechristened as SP's Military Yearbook in 1992, as a tribute to the Founder Editor Shri S.P. Baranwal who founded the company in 1964.
Today the Yearbook is regarded and termed as Bible of information on the armed forces in the context of entire Asia and the defence industry world over.
Vice Admiral A.R. Karve was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on July 1, 1980. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, and a specialist in antisubmarine warfare. He is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and the Naval Higher Command Course at the College of Naval Warfare. He has undergone a post-graduate course in National Security and Strategy from the National Defence University, Washington DC (USA). He has held sea commands of INS Viraat, Ranvijay, Dunagiri and Ajay. He has held operational appointments of Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer (Western Fleet), Command Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer (Western Naval Command) and Chief Staff Officer (Operations) Western Naval Command.
On promotion to Flag rank he was appointed as Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Information Warfare & Operations) at the IHQ MoD (Navy). Thereafter, he was appointed the Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet, the sword arm of the Navy. On promotion to rank of Vice Admiral, he was appointed as Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command. Prior to taking over as the Flag Officer Commandingin-Chief, Southern Naval Command, he was the Chief of Personnel at IHQ MoD (Navy). He is recipient of AVSM award.
