SP Guide Publications' first and rather flagship publication, the Military Yearbook was launched in 1965 and rechristened as SP's Military Yearbook in 1992, as a tribute to the Founder Editor Shri S.P. Baranwal who founded the company in 1964.
Today the Yearbook is regarded and termed as Bible of information on the armed forces in the context of entire Asia and the defence industry world over.
Vice Admiral G. Ashok Kumar is an alumnus of National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, Pune. He was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on July 1, 1982, with specialisation in navigation and direction. He is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and has attended the Army Higher Command course at Mhow as well as the Expeditionary Operations course at Quantico, Virginia, USA. His sea tenures include Commanding Officer of INS ships Kulish and Ranvir, and Executive Officer, INS Brahmaputra. His shore tenures include Head of Training Team (Navy) at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and as Defence Advisor at the High Commission of India in Singapore.
He has also been the Chief Staff Officer (Operations) of the Western Naval Command. On promotion to Flag rank, he held the appointments of Flag Officer Sea Training, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command and Flag Officer, Maharashtra and Gujarat Area. On promotion to the rank of Vice Admiral he was appointed as the Commandant, NDA. He is recipient of VSM and AVSM awards.
